Our Gong Bath Ceremony

What to expect at our gong bath ceremonies.

Every practitioner has a personal expression, using a different blend of instruments, creating a unique sound healing ceremony. Our own expression has evolved during our sound healing journey so that each ceremony is unique and organic. Below is a loose outline to give you a general idea of what an experience with us may include.

An opening meditation and tanpura

We begin our Gong Bath sound healing with the continuous harmonic bourdon of the tamboura as you lie down and are invited to clear away the clutter of the day. You are encouraged to fully arrive and to be present on a physical, mental, and emotional level. As in any meditation, remaining present is a key aspect. This time is the opportunity to put aside distractions and draw fully into experiencing the sound healing.

After a few minutes, you are guided through a Yoga Nidra during which you are completely relaxed and are encouraged to become systematically and increasingly aware of your physical world by following a set of verbal instructions. This is an acknowledgment that your corporeal being is held safe so your ethereal consciousness can expand. The better you are able to create a calm, neutral space for yourself within which to journey, the more beneficial will be the experience.

“Space Drum” & Metal Bowls

During the second phase of the meditation, Marshall begins playing his “space drum”. His melodies encourage you to relax and your vibrations to begin stirring. His song allows you to gently release into the sound healing. During this time, Megan transitions from the tanpura to the metal bowls. She uses the subtleties of 17th and 18th century Himalayan singing bowls to create complex multiple harmonic frequencies to stir your vibrations. We are so grateful to have these instruments here with us. These ancient instruments were a few of the last items shipped out of Nepal prior to the earthquakes. They are steeped in centuries of ceremonies.

Gemstone Crystal Bowls

Marshall transitions to the gemstone crystal bowls where the influences of the of Ametrine, Amethyst,  Emerald, and a blend of Obsidian and Black Tourmaline frequencies are entwined with the vibrations of the bowls. While being played, these beautiful instruments harmonize your brain, entraining your brainwaves, through the production of binaural beats.

Ametrine is a stone of both balance and connection and is believed to relieve tension, bring serenity and stimulate creativity, as well as balance mental stability and self-confidence.

Emerald is a heart opening frequency. It enhances unconditional love, unity and promotes friendship. Keeps partnerships in balance and can signal unfaithfulness if it changes color. Emerald stimulates the heart chakra, having a healing effect on the emotions as well as the physical heart.

Amethyst has healing powers to help with physical ailments, emotional issues, and in Energy Healing and Chakra balancing. Amethyst crystal therapies are primarily associated with physical ailments of the nervous system, the curing of nightmares and insomnia, and balancing and opening the crown chakra.

Obsidian is a strongly protective stone, it forms a shield against negativity. It blocks a psychic attack and absorbs negative energies from the environment. Obsidian draws out mental stress and tension. Black Tourmaline aids in the removal of negative energies within a person or a space. Black Tourmaline will cleanse, purify, and transform dense energy into a lighter vibration. A popular metaphysical stone, Black Tourmaline is also great for grounding. It balances, harmonizes, and protects all of the Chakras.

Saturn and Sun Gongs

The ancient gongs ring in the third phase of the sound healing ceremony. Tuned to the Sun and to Saturn, the power of the gongs is felt throughout the mind and body as the vibrations course through your body. The vast array of sounds is immense and they truly provide a cosmic experience as the frequencies of the planets dance within your corporeal being. The depth of the journey is unique to each practitioner while the waves of sound wash across the bodies in the room and the idea of a Gong “Bath” is experienced. This sound healing may be loud, intense, emotional, relaxing, and any experience along the gamut of humanity.

It is during the gongs that this experience can get the loudest and most intense. The crescendos are an invitation to deepen into the experience and let go. The voyage in the cosmic, dimensional ether is unique to each body.

During the gong bath portion of the sound ceremony, Megan may provide personalized tuning fork sessions. Designed to be used over and on the body, the sound waves of the forks travel deeply into the body. The application of tuning forks stimulate and balance the body’s physical and energetic fields promoting healing and harmony. The vibrations travel along your energy pathways affecting your physiology.

Grounding after the gong bath ceremony

The fourth and final phase of the gong bath ceremony is that of reconnecting to the body. After a vibrational journey, rattles awaken the body and through shamanic drumming, you are encouraged to ground into this corporeal existence.  The heartbeat is felt, the breath deepens, and the Journeyer is welcomed home. Flute-playing serenades you and chanting is the final grounding element to the sound healing.  The chiming of the tingshas closes the sound healing ceremony.

The Winter Solstice is upon us. The term ‘solstice’ means ‘sun stands still’ and has been celebrated since the Neolithic Ages. We in the Northern Hemisphere are in a time of the longest nights and the sun the farthest away from our tilting planet’s celestial equator. For the ancients, spiritual and cultural traditions developed into a celebration of fire and light to welcome the returning sun. It marked a new cycle, a turning of the seasons......
