Pay Attention

“The sensation is telling us to pay attention … and how (it) needs some release. This act of paying attention is the practice. Spiritual practice is not the Asana but the act of noticing during the practice of the Asana. Part of the benefit of a regular Asana practice is to remind us to pay attention. Feelings serve the same purpose.

If we learn the habit of paying attention to feelings as they arise, we are immediately brought into the present moment. And this is the hallmark of spiritual practice.”

– Judith Hanson Lasater

Commit to paying attention

It’s not just about Intention but Attention as well. Attention is a tending to … a nurturing of an intention to help it grow and manifest. It’s being aware of what is happening in the present moment rather than in the past/future. It’s not enough to just set the intentions but we have to do the work of being present with and manifesting them. The Now desires your focus.

I find that Attention asks that we show patience and kindness. Intentions take time to manifest and don’t happen overnight (well, depends on what the intention is). But most often they require us to remain committed to bringing something into the world and “tend to” the quality of energy we surround ourselves during this growth stage. Attention brings loving kindness into each moment as you begin to treasure each moment of the process and nurture the intention.

Attention is a very summer idea as the days become longer and seeds that were planted begin to grow. It is the energy of the South, that brings in consistency, resiliency and endurance, helping us to manifest our dreams. When we pay attention, we are able to focus our power and energy into creating … into becoming.

In yoga, paying attention means looking at our alignment in each posture, yes, but also means to expand our awareness to include the sensations, emotions, and/or thoughts that arise while in each posture. It includes clearing the mind of everyday distractions so that we can quiet our conscious mind to listen to our un/sub-conscious minds and the wisdom of our bodies during these practices.

Looking for coincidences/synchronicities is also a form of paying attention as we notice the energies around us, influencing us and being influenced by us. We are each powerful beings with the ability to transform the more we learn to pay attention.
